When we arrived in Dumaguete City after long hours of travel from Mactan International Airport at around 5am, it was too early to roam around so we directly checked-in at RM Guest House to get some rest and make-up for some sleep.
I made reservations in this hotel a week before our scheduled trip. Since we are coming in the Holy Week, I reckoned that most affordable hotels would be fully booked. A tip on the side, make sure to make reservations early on too if your coming to any distant place on the busiest season. It sure should save you time and fullybooked hassles.
RM Guest House is a decent hotel located just on the left side of St. Paul University. It’s at least thirty minutes easy jeep ride away from Sibulan Port, the dock port if you’re traveling from Cebu via Liloan Port.
We were lucky that although regular customer’s check-in is at 2pm daily, the hotel welcomed us to check-in as we arrived. We didn’t stayed on the original room I reserved as it’s still occupied. However, the receptionist presented available rooms they have at the moment for us to choose from.
We stayed in a twin-bed room and requested for an extra bed since there are three of us in the group. Just don’t expect much on the extra bed as it’s gonna be just a single foam with extra pillow and clean sheets. Our other group member basically slept on the floor which was fine. He’s a guy so we’re all good.
Why I chose this hotel for our stay?
1. It’s recommended by a good friend for No. 1 consideration: superb customer service.
If you know the woman behind Chasing Places, Joann, she stayed here during her visit in Dumaguete. She has fair reasons why she chose to stay in this hotel too. And in the same way we have too. From waking up the staff early in the morning at 5am upon our arrival, to assisting us to our room, to answering our questions about directions in going around Dumaguete, and to immediately attending to our every concern especially when the shower in our room was stucked up and won’t stop from flowing. They were genuinely extra accommodating without complains in every way aside that I know it’s part of their job. Perhaps it’s innate in every locales in Dumaguete. But in any way, I’ m only one satisfied customer during our stay.
2. The hotel has a spa.
Dumaguete City is a small city and all historic sites as well as good food restaurants can be accessed by simply walking around. A good massage to end the major walkathon around the city should be great without having to go far. Sleep is just a few steps away next door.
3. Hot shower is well functioning.
It’s important to me that hot shower is fully functioning. I usually set airconditioners to a high mode that I will be needing to take a hot shower the next day to do away with the very cold good night sleep.
4. The internet connection is very good.
I don’t have much luxury of time to travel as I’ am a corporate worker with online jobs on the side. I usually bring in with me some tasks I can work on the road so having a very good internet connection is one important consideration for me.
5. It’s cheap, decent, cozy hotel rolled into one.
The hotel’s interior design would make you think that it’s not affordable to stay here. But it is. I’ve tried searching for other hostels too, fullybooked aside, some may be cheap but not decent. And at the same time, some may be decent but not cheap and all the more not cozy. I think it’s really rare to find one hotel with all these characteristics, including cited reasons on 1 to 4.
I’ am not in any way connected to RM Guest House. I just think it’s the least I can do for the very hospitable welcome and comfortable stay my friends and I experienced. So, if you have the chance to explore Dumaguete, consider RM Guest House for your accommodation. I’ m pretty sure you’ll have a good stay, if not great.
